Dr. Debra Hinson | TriBeta Sponsor

Dr. Debra Hinson

I am Dr. Hinson, and I have been the Faculty Sponsor of Omicron Kappa since its beginning in 2012. I love TriBeta and all that it represents and the opportunities it affords students. I have a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from Baylor University and teach Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, and Immunology. I live on a small farm with my husband and children. I love to cook, sing and act in my local theatre, and do things with my family.

Christian Birky | TriBeta Officer

Christian Birky

My name is Christian Birky. I am a senior this year and a biology major. I am from Colorado Springs, Colorado. I plan on postgraduate studies after DBU as I prepare to enter the medical field. I love playing sports and hanging out with my friends. I can’t wait to start serving you this year as we all strive to prepare for whatever work the Lord has called us to!

Ben Barrett | TriBeta Officer

Ben Barrett

My name is Ben Barrett, and I am in the process of earning my B.S. in biology with a minor in chemistry. I plan on continuing my education at the graduate level in environmental biology and hope to conduct research that leads to sustainable food and water sources in developing communities. I enjoy just about anything that can be done outdoors, whether that be hiking, rock climbing, or just plain ol’ exploring. When I’m not studying until the wee hours of the morning, working, or gallivanting through the wilderness, I can usually be found spending time with my friends and family, and my wonderful fiancée, Anna.

Kayla Westerman | TriBeta Officer

Kayla Westerman

My name is Kayla Westerman. I am a junior majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry. I plan to go to medical school somewhere in Texas after graduating to pursue a career as a pediatrician. I have lived in Texas my whole life and would like to one day travel outside of the United States. I enjoy reading, sewing, puzzles, cooking, being out in nature, and crafting. I am excited for the future of TriBeta and hope to make it as organized as possible. I look forward to getting to know y’all and serving as your secretary.

Shelby Buckner | TriBeta Officer

Shelby Buckner

Hello, my name is Shelby Buckner and I will serve as the treasurer for the 2015-2016 school year. I am a senior biology/pre-med student. I have spent my entire life, so far, in Houston, Texas, and I am hoping to attend medical school in Texas as well. In my free time, I enjoy baking, working with children, playing sports, rock climbing, kayaking, swimming, or anything else that leads to adventures. I look forward to serving in TriBeta and am excited for where the next year will take us.

Paige Harrelson | TriBeta Officer

Paige Harrelson

Hello, my name is Paige Harrelson. I am a senior majoring in biology and minoring in psychology. Although I live in Texas, I am not a native born Texan (I know, it’s a shame). My family has moved around quite a lot including internationally. Because our family moved often, I grew fond of traveling and hope to incorporate it into my future career as a physician’s assistant. I look forward to being historian for our growing chapter as we co-host the regional conference and make a bigger presence for ourselves at DBU. The leadership for this year is outstanding, and I am excited to serve with such capable and humble people.

Milena Moreno | TriBeta Officer

Milena Moreno

I am a senior and am majoring in biology and minoring in psychology. After I graduate, I hope to go on to PA school at UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth and then from there to eventually serve as a medical missionary in whichever country God sends me to. I have lived in Texas my whole life, but my real home is in other countries among those who are less fortunate, sharing with them the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have a long road ahead of me, so when I get stressed out I think about Philippians 1:6 and remember that God has a plan far beyond what I can imagine. I am looking forward to this year in TriBeta and am excited to serve as your Events Coordinator!
